Wes Streeting for Ilford North
When I was a kid, free school meals made a real difference to my life and to my Mum. So I know how important today’s vote in Parliament on school holiday hunger is so important.
England footballer (we’ll skate over the Man U bit!) Marcus Rashford has written a powerful letter to MPs, urging us to take action to stop millions of children going hungry this summer.
Today, we’ve got a chance to do that. By extending the voucher scheme over the summer holidays, kids who’d normally receive free school meals would receive a voucher that their family can spend on making sure they are fed.
The choice facing MPs is simple: act to stop children going hungry or block action knowing that kids will suffer as a result.
Some choices in politics are hard. This one is easy. Today I’ll be voting to end holiday hunger.
