Huge numbers of jobs in our country are reliant on the aviation industry. I’ve had lots of e-mail from British Airways employee and, staff who work at Stansted and other airports who risk losing their jobs.

Today I led Labour’s calls for an aviation sector deal to save jobs, keep the economy going and hold the industry to higher standards, particularly on their environmental impact. This was in response to an Urgent Question to the Chancellor – but he didn’t turn up!

With respect to the Aviation Minister, she was sent along with her hands behind her back. The Government’s aviation policy is up in the air, but the planes are grounded – and so is the economy. The Chancellor needs to get a grip.
