As co-chair of The APPG on British Muslims I’ve been leading work on tackling Islamophobia in our country. Today, I was in the Scottish Parliament and absolutely delighted that the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, endorsed our proposed definition of Islamophobia. You can see the question put by my Labour friend and colleague, Anas Sarwar, at First Minister’s Questions today.

It’s been an action packed day. Alongside Sayeeda, Baroness Warsi, I met with Muslim community and interfaith organisations from across Scotland and every opposition party leader, including Labour’s Richard Leonard MSP, the Conservatives’ Jackson Carlaw MSP, the Lib Dems’ Willie Rennie MSP and the Greens’ Patrick Harvie MSP. We also had a good meeting with the Communities Secretary Aileen Campbell MSP.

You can find out more about our definition here: https://islamophobia-definition.com. To tackle prejudice and discrimination it needs to be properly understood. This is just the start of our campaign to eradicate Islamophobia from our country.

You can watch the First Minister endorse the accepted definition of Islamophobia below:
