Ilford North Labour Party members have chosen their candidate to fight Lee Scott MP in the 2015 General Election.
The members heard presentations from four short-listed candidates and grilled them on their campaign experience and plans for Ilford North. Wes Streeting, currently the Deputy Leader of the Labour Group on Redbridge Council, won the ballot and is now ready to take on Lee Scott about the record of the Tory-led Government and his broken promises. Wes Streeting said after his selection,
“I’m delighted to have been chosen by Labour members and I’m looking forward to meeting as many residents, community groups and businesses in Ilford North as possible between now and the next general election.
“Every day we see the damaging impact that the Tories are having on our community from broken promises on King George Hospital to recent cuts to our police stations at Barkingside and Wanstead. Lee Scott should be standing up for families struggling to make ends meet, but instead he’s loyally towing the party line and voting through the very policies that are making things worse.
“People deserve a Government that stands up for them – not for a privileged few. I’ll be taking a positive message to the doorsteps of Ilford North to show that Labour will take the action needed to deal with the cost of living crisis and build an economy that works for ordinary people.”
