Wes attacks cuts to working family tax credits in Commons debate

Ilford North's MP condemned cuts to working family tax credits as it emerged that 12,800 including 26,000 children across Ilford would be affected.

Wes called on Conservative MPs who oppose the cuts to join opposition MPs to vote against them and urged members of the House of Lords to block them if necessary.

Speaking following the debate, Wes said: "I had just two minutes to convey Ilford's opposition to these cuts and I urged Conservative MPs who had spoken against cuts to tax credits to actually vote against them. Sadly, they failed to do so. I hope that members of the House of Lords block these cuts and I'm deeply disappointed that the House of Commons has allowed them to pass.

"Some 26,000 children in our community will be affected by cuts to tax credits. It's terrible that parents who are doing the right thing by going out to work are being financially penalised, even as the wealthiest in our society receive tax cuts!"
