Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is a big priority for me. It inflicts misery and fear on people where we should feel most safe: our own homes and streets.

In August 2021 I published new research showing the impact of crime on kids as Labour’s Shadow Child Poverty Secretary.

Conservative Police cuts have left us less safe. My ‘More Bobbies on the Beat’ campaign has made an impact and together we’ve secured some more officers, but we’re still short of where we were when the Tories came to power in 2010. £1.6 BILLION has been cut.

As well as campaigning for more police and funding for youth services and other initiatives to tackle the causes of crime, I continue to work with local communities – street by street in some cases – to help with local anti-social behaviour and crime hot spots.
