Since my election just over three years ago, I’ve put reform of the taxi and private hire industry on the agenda of Parliament and the Government. Today, members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Taxis, which I founded and chair, have written to the Transport Minister urging her to act on the recommendations of the Government’s independent working group on taxi and private hire licensing.

The reforms would cover issues including cross-border hiring, national minimum standards, accessibility, plying for hire and other key issues affecting the industry.

The working group adopted so many of the recommendations that our APPG report put forward last year. Now we need action.

With all the rows going on about Brexit and other issues, I hope this is an issue where we’ll be able to work across party lines to make change happen. This letter, signed by MPs from across the political spectrum, shows just how widespread support is for reform.
