Local Conservatives are claiming that King George A&E isn't going to close and that we're scaremongering - but the Tories in government have ALREADY taken the closure decision.
This is utterly typical of their breathtaking complacency about the future of our A&E and shows why they can't be trusted to fight for local NHS services.
Since I was elected (in fact long before I was elected), I've campaigned relentlessly to get the closure decision reversed. It was the very first issue I raised in Parliament, I've organised community meetings, led hundreds of residents through the streets of Ilford to march to save the A&E, I've questioned ministers, lobbied local health officials, organised parliamentary debates with Mike Gapes and last week I presented a petition of more than 10,000 signatures in the House of Commons.
Having put countless hours into campaigning to save the A&E from closure, working with residents who support a wide range of political parties, it is pretty galling to see the Conservatives misleading people about the future of the A&E. Just last week, the government announced funding to help every local A&E - EXCEPT for King George Hospital.
I think people will be able to draw their own conclusions about who they can trust to genuinely fight for the future of the A&E at King George Hospital.
