Olympic Swimmer Backs Redbridge Labour's Call for a Permanent Swimming Pool for Ilford

Olympic swimmer Adam Whitehead has backed Labour's calls for a permanent swimming pool for Ilford during a visit to Wanstead, according to reports in the Ilford Recorder

Speaking to the Recorder, Mr Whitehead said: “I know there’s talk of another temporary pool in Redbridge but a permanent one would be even better.” He also revealed that just a third of children in Redbridge are able to swim.

Ilford North's Parliamentary Candidate, Wes Streeting, welcomed the comments saying: "I'm glad that Redbridge Labour's campaign for a permanent pool has been echoed by Adam Whitehead. As one of our Olympic heroes he knows what he's talking about.

"It's time for the Leader of the Council to accept that his hurried temporary pool plans will not deliver the long-term solution to Redbridge's swimming problems. Fullwell Cross is already far too congested. We need a lasting solution that delivers value for money for swimmers across the borough."
