Good news for cyclists as Wes announces plans to upgrade facilities for Redbridge Cycling Centre

The future of Redbridge Cycling Centre will be secured and facilities upgraded under new plans announced by Redbridge Council's Deputy Leader, Cllr Wes Streeting.

The proposals, to be considered by councillors in September, will see the Council purchase the Cycling Centre from the Crown Estate using a grant of £309K provided by funding from the London Marathon Charitable Trust, securing its long term future.

Sport England has also agreed to allocate £180k for new facilities. These will include floodlighting for later winter opening, a cut-through to make the track easier to navigate for novices, younger and disabled riders and a four lane BMX track. Work will start in October once due processes have been completed.

Councillor Wes Streeting, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing and Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Ilford North, said: “I'm delighted that we're able to improve facilities at Redbridge Cycling Centre. It's a great leisure asset for Ilford North and widely used by residents right across the borough.

"The investment we’ve secured guarantees the long term future of the centre and the new facilities will bring benefits to novices and experienced riders alike. I'm particularly pleased with the plans for disabled cyclists."
