A snap general election has been called for Thursday 8th June. Today, I informed the General Secretary of the Labour Party that I will be seeking re-election as Ilford North's Member of Parliament. I will be standing on my record of standing up for Ilford North.
Two years ago, people in Ilford North put their faith in me to represent our community in Parliament - bucking the national trend on a terrible night for the Labour Party.
Since then, I have poured my heart and soul into standing up for Ilford North - in Parliament and in our community. From fighting to save the A&E at King George Hospital and challenging Tory cuts to school budgets locally to leading nationally on issues like fighting the cuts to student grants and financial support for trainee nurses, midwives and other NHS staff. I've been one of Parliament's most active MPs.
I'm asking for you to put your faith in me again. You know that I'm a principled and independent-minded constituency MP, rooted in our community, who will always speak truth to power and always put your interests first.
As you know, I don't just call at election time but I'm looking forward to hitting the campaign trail in the weeks ahead.
