Miliband plan will tackle the Redbridge housing crisis, says Wes Streeting

Ed Miliband announced bold new proposals to tackle the housing crisis in London on a visit to Ilford North today (1st May).

Launching Labour's national campaign for the Local and European elections in Redbridge, Ed Miliband announced a range of policies to help people renting in London, including

  • Secure three year tenancies for renters
  • Legislation to prevent excessive rent increases
  • A ban on letting agents’ fees for tenants, saving them £350 on average

Wes Streeting, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Ilford North, said:

“It’s fantastic to have Ed Miliband in Ilford North and even better that he’s announcing action that will tackle the Redbridge housing crisis. Not only are housing costs spiralling out of control, the increase in buy-to-lets and insecure tenancies is undermining the community spirit in our borough.

“Labour’s plans will help keep rents under control and give tenants the stability and security they need to put down roots in our local community. I’m particularly pleased to see action to tackle rip-off agents’ fees – which will work well with Redbridge Labour’s plans for a compulsory registration scheme for landlords to drive up housing standards.”
