Antisemitism and other forms of bigotry have no place in our politics or our community

Wes Streeting speaks out following antisemitic abuse levelled at his Conservative opponent, Lee Scott.

Wes Streeting writes:

You may have seen reports in recent days that Lee Scott has been on the receiving end of antisemitic abuse and death threats, including threats against his family. This is simply deplorable.

Antisemitism has no place in our politics or our community. I stand shoulder to shoulder with Lee Scott against Jew-hatred.

One of the things that makes Redbridge a special place to live is the diversity of our community and the harmony we enjoy between people from different backgrounds.

We can't afford to be complacent about our community cohesion. I will always stand up against antisemitism, islamophobia, sexism, racism, homophobia, discrimination against disabled people and all other forms of prejudice and intolerance.

If you don't share these values, I'm not your candidate and I don't want your vote.

As we approach Chanukah, I hope that Jewish people across Redbridge can enjoy the festival of lights free from racism and discrimination. I wish Lee, Estelle and his family, as well as Jews across Redbridge, Chanukah Sameach.
